CED's at the eBay Auction Site |
In December 2002, eBay discontinued the specific CED category at their UK auction site. The old link now simply goes to a listing of all categories. Ebay stated that this category was discontinued due to inactivity, but the category almost always contained some listings. Unfortunately, CED listings decreased at the UK site after this category was abandoned. Ebay now recommends using the generic video category Other for CED listings, which does little to bring attention to the CED format.
If you would like to suggest to eBay that they bring the UK CED category back, visit their UK support page and click through the topics until you reach a form where you can actually type a message.
In April 2003, eBay also discontinued the specific CED category at their US auction site. This was much more active than the same category at the UK site, so it's strange they would remove it. The old link again goes to a listing of all categories. Ebay now recommends using the generic video category Other for CED listings. The CED category was originally created in 1999 because many people were listing CED's in the LaserDisc category, and buyers unfamiliar with CED's were mistakenly buying them as LaserDiscs.
In 2005, eBay established a US CED Sub-category within the Other category. This is the functional equivalent of having a unique CED category. Hopefully they will do the same thing at the UK site as well.
