Featured CED VideoDisc No. 10 - Fall 1998 |
This CED feature is being written around Halloween time, so I chose what I consider to be one of the best horror films available on CED, Stanley Kubrick's The Shining. An interesting thing about this film is that the exteriors of the Overlook Hotel in the movie were filmed at Timberline Lodge. This lodge is on the slope of Mt. Hood near where I live in Portland, Oregon. Timberline Lodge doesn't actually have the infamous "Room 237" from the movie, as the lodge owners' specifically requested the number 217 used in the book be changed to a nonexistent room number. Another thing missing from the actual Timberline lodge is the elaborate hedge maze outside the hotel, which figures prominently in the movie's climax. Shown below are a few screen shots from the movie illustrating some exterior scenes.
