No one person can be singled out as the inventor of television, but John Logie Baird had the first system on the market (in the United Kingdom). Here he is seen demonstrating his mechanical television system in 1926. This system used a spinning mechanical Nipkow Disc in contrast to the tube-based TV's that were simultaneously being developed. The dummies head seen at the left end of the apparatus is the subject being televised.
