October 21, 1982: * Hissen Habre is sworn in as president of Chad. The new government replaces the Council of State that had ruled since Habre's overthrow of President Goukouni Oueddei in June. * the United States and the European Community reach an accord limiting European steel exports to the United States. October 22, 1982: * A delegation of the Arab League headed by Morocco's King Hassan meets at the White House with President Reagan to discuss recent U.S. and Arab peace proposals for the Middle East. * Future CED title in widespread theatrical release: Halloween III. October 23, 1982: * Noted Brazilian pianist Jacques Klein dies at age 52. October 24, 1982: * After 26 miles, just yards separated Alberto Salazar from Rodolfo Gomez in the New York Marathon. Salazar won his 3rd NY Marathon and Grete Waitz won her fourth women's title. October 25, 1982: * The first full season of the television series "Cagney & Lacey" begins on CBS. October 26, 1982: * About 50 unemployed Australian workers from Wollongong, New South Wales, fight their way into Parliament House in Canberra demanding to see Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser. The group represents some 800 laid-off miners and steelworkers who insist that the government take steps to put them back to work. Heaven Can Wait, Fletch, Private Benjamin, Fame, Purple Rain, Fiddler on the Roof, the Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, Pale Rider, Magnificent 7, Pink Panther, Police Academy 1 & 2, Gorky Park, the Natural, Tarzan, Tron, 2010, the Man Who Fell to Earth, 48 hrs, Beverly Hills Cop, Richard Pryor in concert, Fleetwood Mac 2 concert films, Jefferson Starship in concert, Maltese Falcon, High Sierra, Public Enemy, Gone w/the Wind, Gandhi, Godfather, Grateful Dead concert film, Mick Fleetwood the Visitor, RCA Country Music concert, the Swiss Family Robinson, Pinocchio, the Black Hole, Superman 1 & 2, Star Trek III. These are all from the collection of a former RCA executive (my father in law) who worked on the VideoDisc project. I have about more than two hundred VideoDiscs total that I plan to post to ebay.
