November 24, 1982:
* Irish voters go to the polls to decide, in effect, whether Prime Minister
Charles Haughey, representing the Fianna Fail Party, will remain in power or be
replaced by former prime minister Garret FitzGerald, the leader of the Fine
Gael Party. Neither major party gains an absolute majority.

November 25, 1982:
* Police in Rome, Italy, arrest an employee of the Bulgarian national airline,
charging him with complicity in the May 1981 assassination attempt against Pope
John Paul II.
* African leaders meeting in Tripoli, Libya, cancel a conference of the
Organization of African Unity when it becomes evident that a dispute Between
Libya's Muammar al-Qaddafi and Chad's Hissen Habre cannot be amicably resolved.

November 26, 1982:
* The 60-member Central Council of the Palestine Liberation Organization issues
a statement in Damascus, Syria, rejecting President Reagan's proposal that the
Palestinians be given territory in the West Bank and Gaza Strip in association
with Jordan. The terms of the rejection leave open hope for negotiation.
Larry Holmes of Easton, Pennsylvania successfully defends his WBC heavyweight
boxing title for the 13th straight time with a unanimous 15-round decision over
Randy Cobb of Philadelphia.
* Future CED title in widespread theatrical release: Alone in the Dark.

* RCA PRESS RELEASE:
RCA and MCA in Video Disc Deal for 20 Films

RCA "SelectaVision" VideoDiscs and MCA Video Disc, Inc. have entered into an
agreement which will result in 20 Universal Pictures feature films being
released on RCA video discs, it was announced today by James N. Fiedler,
President of MCA Video Disc, and Seth M. Willenson, Staff Vice President,
Program and Business Affairs, RCA Videodiscs.

The agreement also contemplates possible custom pressing by RCA and
distribution of CED video discs by MCA directly at a future date.

The agreement with MCA will make possible future video disc releases of such
films as "Jaws," "Animal House," "The Sting," "American Graffiti," "Smokey and
The Bandit," and "The Jerk."

Among the other titles included are: "Airport," "Coal Miner's Daughter," "The
Four Seasons," "The Blues Brothers," "The Deer Hunter," "The Electric
Horseman," "Frankenstein," "Dracula," "Psycho," "Duck Soup," "The Birds,"
"Animal Crackers," "Never Give A Sucker An Even Break," and "My Little
Chickadee."

Mr. Willenson said the first of the MCA titles will become available at retail
in the first quarter of 1983. "The opportunity to license from MCA this package
of 20 significant motion pictures is a gratifying addition to the Capacitance
Electronic Disc (CED) library."

Thomas G. Kuhn, Division Vice President, RCA VideoDiscs, said "MCA has been a
leader in the home entertainment industry, and we look forward to their
continued support of our 'CED' system."

Mr Fiedler said, "We are pleased to have the Universal programming become
available on the 'CED' system in the United States and Canada. MCA is committed
to the exploitation of its software on all viable video disc systems. 'CED' has
established a place for itself in the consumer market and we will become an
important part of the 'CED' catalog."

November 27, 1982:
* New Japanese Prime Minister Yasuhiro Nakasone, 64, and his 21-member cabinet
are installed in office. Nakasone was elected in a special; session of the Diet
the day before.
* "Truly" by Lionel Richie (CED) becomes the No. 1 U.S. single.

November 28, 1982:
* The "Pirates of Penzance" closes at the Uris Theater in New York City after a
run of 772 performances.

November 29, 1982:
* The UN General Assembly, for the fourth time in three years, condemns the
presence of Soviet troops in Afghanistan. The vote, which calls for the
"immediate withdrawal of foreign forces" from the country, is 114 to 21 with 13
abstentions.
* Representatives of 88 nations end a six-day meeting of the General Agreement
on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), held in Geneva. Though the conference was extended
by three days, fundamental trade issues remained unresolved.

November 30, 1982:
* It is reported that the federal government is conducting more than 50 studies
related to Agent Orange, the herbicide used in the Vietnam War and blamed by
some for a host of health problems among veterans of the war.

Subject: First Encounter with CED

Hello All:

Recently I purchased a Radio Shack sale catalog from 1981 on eBay because it
contained an ad for the Realistic 16-301 CED player. When I got this catalog in
the mail, just one look at the cover piqued my memory back to 1981 when I first
saw a CED player. I remembered this as being sometime during the holiday season
of 1981, but couldn't recall exactly where. Well, the cover of this catalog has
a coupon for a free Radio Shack flashlight, and I remember getting that
flashlight and seeing the CED display at the same time. I used the free
flashlight for a few years until the switch finally broke off. The catalog
expired on Sunday, November 22, 1981, so this may have been 21 years ago today.
In case anyone else remembers this, here's a picture of the cover of the
