Dalton H. Pritchard received the BSEE degree in Electronics in 1943 from Mississippi State University. In 1946, Mr. Pritchard joined RCA Laboratories as a Member of the Technical Staff at Princeton, New Jersey. There he has been engaged, for a number of years, In research in many aspects of color television systems development, receivers, color kinescopes, transmitting encoders, cameras, and magnetic recording of TV. This work Included the planning and testing of systems and circuits proposed for adoption by the National Television Systems Committee (NTSC). At present, Mr. Pritchard is engaged in the development of video processing circuitry for color TV receivers in the areas of colorimetry, decoder matrix methods, and the development of analog techniques employing CCD devices for TV applications.

In the period between 1952 and 1980, Mr. Pritchard received nine RCA Laboratories Achievement Awards. He has been granted 36 patents in the fields of Color Television and Information Display. In 1975, he was appointed Fellow of the Technical Staff, RCA Laboratories. In June 1977, he was awarded the Vladimir K. Zworykin Award for "Significant Contributions to Color Television Technology" at the IEEE Consumer Electronics Spring Conference In Chicago. In September 1981, he was among nine co-recipients of the International Eduard Rhein Prize 1980, presented In Berlin. He was cited lor numerous contributions in the field of video techniques and particularly as a leader In the development of the Dynamic Detail Processor employed in RCA ColorTrak receivers. He is a Fellow of the IEEE, Fellow of SID, and is a member of Sigma Xi, Tau Beta Pi, and Kappa Mu Epsilon.

Mr. Pritchard was principally responsible for the development and evaluation of analog techniques for employing the CCD comb filter technology in the color TV receiver signal processing system. This work on the video processing system implications of the comb filter was essential to the successful incorporation of this filter in TV receivers. He has several issued patents and pending patent applications concerning inventions applicable to the use of the CCD for the comb filter IC in the receiver. The subject matter of these inventions relate to generating and properly synchronizing the comb filter timing signal, structuring the CCD comb filter system to achieve predictable signal delays, and restoring vertical image detail information to the luminance signal.

From 1960 to 1970, Mr. Pritchard developed video processing circuitry for color TV receivers, colorimetry and decoder matrix methods, and analog techniques employing CCD devices for TV applications. He also worked on SelectaVision and VideoDisc development. More recently, as a member of the Television Research Laboratory, Mr. Pritchard has been engaged in research related to high-definition TV (HDTV) systems that include applications of digital signal processing techniques.

Between 1952 and 1978, Mr. Pritchard received seven RCA Laboratories Outstanding Achievement Awards. In 1977 he received the Vladimir K. Zworykin Award for "significant contributions to color television technology." In 1981, he received the David Sarnoff Award for Outstanding Technical Achievement. Mr. Pritchard was awarded the Eduard Rhein Prize in 1980, which was presented in Berlin in 1981. Also in 1981, he was appointed to the New Jersey Governor's State Panel of Science Advisers. In 1983, he was elected to membership in the U.S. National Academy of Engineers (NAE).

Mr. Pritchard is the author of more than 20 technical papers and presentations. He holds 40 U.S. patents, and has several pending. He is a Fellow of the Technical Staff, RCA Laboratories, a Fellow of IEEE and SID, and a member of Sigma Xi, Tau Beta Pi, and Kappa Mu Epsilon.
