RCA Press Release for September 29, 1981 |
RCA and Columbia Pictures Industries, Inc. have entered into an agreement under which RCA receives the right to use 25 feature movies on its "SelectaVision" VideoDisc system, it was announced today by Jonathan Dolgen, President of the Pay Cable and Home Entertainment Group of Columbia Pictures and Seth M. Willenson, division vice president, programs and business affairs, RCA "SelectaVision" VideoDiscs.
Mr. Willenson said, "RCA is extremely pleased to be able to present 25 movies from Columbia's great library of classic and contemporary motion pictures. We believe these new titles will prove extremely popular with consumers and will enhance RCA's growing catalog of quality programs for home video."
Mr. Dolgen added, "We at Columbia Pictures welcome this association with RCA 'SelectaVision' VideoDiscs. RCA's marketing abilities in this field combined with the wide appeal of Columbia's product should prove to be a most successful relationship."
The agreement with Columbia will make possible future video disc releases of such hits as "Close Encounters of The Third Kind," "The Deep," "Stir Crazy" and "The Blue Lagoon," Mr. Willenson said.
Among the other titles included are: "The China Syndrome," "Midnight Express," "And Justice For All," "California Suite," "Tess," "Bridge on The River Kwai," "Guns of Navarone," "Cat Ballou," "A Man For All Seasons," "Easy Rider," "The Eyes of Laura Mars," "Brian's Song," "Gilda," "3 Stooges," "Sinbad and The Eye of The Tiger" and "Born Free."
