RCA "SelectaVision" VideoDiscs has signed an agreement with the Performance Video Division of Monarch Entertainment, Inc. to develop music video programs, it was announced today by Seth M. Willenson, Division Vice President, Programs and Business Affairs, RCA "SelectaVision" VideoDiscs.
The agreement provides for the development of music-based entertainment for home video and related markets such as cable TV. The types of productions will be a wide range of music video, including concert and conceptual/narrative programs.
Monarch Entertainment has a multi-level involvement in the music business through concert promotion; artist representation, including the Allman Brothers; Jack Bruce, and Dave Edmunds; tour management of The Grateful Dead; and video production. The company is a pioneer in the music video field with a complete in-house video production facility at its major venue; the Capitol Theater in Passaic, New Jersey.
Monarch Entertainment's president, John Scher, said that his company is "properly positioned to work with RCA in offering new music video programs created especially for the emerging home video and cable markets."
Seth Willenson said, "John Scher is the kind of creative music industry professional whom 'SelectaVision' is looking to work with in product development. In addition to being a leading contemporary rock impresario, John has produced the video special of The Grateful Dead at Radio City Music Hall, and coordinated the Rolling Stones tour video project. The RCA/Monarch agreement will be a continuing source of innovative, unique audio-visual programming."
