The completed signal processing board is placed inside this alignment jig which verifies component positioning and adjustment. Any boards found out of alignment are examined more closely at a special troubleshooting station before release to the player build-up line.

This was Automatic Test and Alignment (electronic adjustment of coils and pots). Nothing to do with mechanical alignment. Very cool motor driven "screwdrivers" would set gains, offsets and the like as the board was probed (spring loaded bed of nails) from below.
