Tom Howe:

You recently answered an inquiry on the first stereo and first ever CED discs
pressed/released.  What about the last???  What titles were the last ones
pressed by RCA and what month and year did they arrive???  I have a "Return
of the Jedi" that I've been told was pretty near the end of CED.

Not a very big last issue..... So, I thought that I would at least send
something to add to the next CED Digest...... 

-CED Do's and Don'ts- 

Do not try to substitute vaseline or toothpaste for the CED disk
lubricant.... This can cause a very big mess. 

Do not allow your weird friends to take the top off of your CED player
and say things like,"OOOOH, NEAT!!!" 

Do be sure to take a plastic wrap off of your CED movie before putting it
into your player..... 

Do not try to play discs that are warped or cracked... However,
sometimes this is hard to determine..... Not many people know how to
open a CED case. 

Do not forget to eject a CED before turning off the player.... Sometimes
the turntable keeps running....

Do not leave the caddy in the player while it is being ejected from the
motorized loading models.... 

Do not try to play 45 rpm records inside of your CED player.... On the
same note, Do not try to play a CED on a phonograph.... 

Do not try to put a laser disc in a CED player....

Do not try to put a CED in a Laserdisc player....

Do not try to put a 1927 phonovision disc in a CED player.... 

(All of this is from experience..... Really... I'm not joking....)

Overall..... Do enjoy your CED Player!!!

My friend recently got a CED player and it has no sound..... The picture
looks great but it has no sound.... It's an RCA model, manual loading, I
don't have the model number in front of me.... Would anyone have any
information about this problem????

More from my old Popular Science magazines.  This'll be the last of
these for a while until I can page through the remainder of my
collection 1700 miles away in the Chicago area.

A short snippet taken from a longer article entitled "Home
Electronics: Currents for the 80's" by Arthur Fisher, published in the
November 1980 issue of P.S.

"The video-disc player, with prerecorded films and other programming
at a much lower price [than video tapes, then - Ed.], has only just
begun to appear.  Yet, the FCC projects, 'disc player sales are
expected to surpass VCR sales within five years.'  Regrettably, the
disc player outlook is also counded by a variety of competing,
incompatible systems."

Fellow CED Collectors:

I've started a new section at the CED Magic website that will contain
information on and pictures of CED players and accessories (remotes,
etc.). The first section, available now, is on RCA Engineering
prototypes developed in the 1970's, and soon I will begin working on a
comparative section for all the production CED players.
