The engineer left a note... "There is a carrier at 4.5 mhz above visual, but no audio on it. I checked around on the board and never did find any audio." What, exactly, is the scheme for audio recording on the disk? Anyone care to speak technically about it? -- Scott C. Williams <Website Now! http://www.media-net.net/people/swilliams/> ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Date: Wed, 12 Feb 1997 09:39:27 -0600 From: David Potochick To: ceds@teleport.com Subject: CED Digest Vol. 2 No. 6 -Reply I'm looking for "TRON" on CED... Let me know if anyone has one that they'd like to sell....... Other CED Stuff..... I liked the orange letterbox at the beginning of Cheech & Chongs "Up In Smoke" CED ... I think they should have done the whole movie in the orange letterbox.... Are parts of a movie ever taken out of a CED to compensate for time??? It seems to me that certain parts of "Raiders Of The Lost Ark" are missing... On the same note, I hate how they edited "Close Encounters Special Edition" on Laser Disc. The whole part about building the mountain in the house was taken out..... How hard is it to break a needle on a CED player??? I've played some pretty awful looking CED movies and I still haven't broken a needle... I'm amazed that I havent...... Has anyone had a needle break yet??? What happens when a needle does break or wear out???? More Later.... I'm wondering about the reject mode on the 400's. How is the action suppose to properly be carried out? Sometimes (depending on what I don't know?) it will come to a slow percise slowdown with the platter and disc gradually, and some other times it will "more aburtply" come to a more suddenly stop and then you can here the friction and sliding of the disc upon the platter itself. It will do this more so, when you press the reject button also. Is there a point where you should wait to reject or "is there a danger to this happening where it could be scarring the disc in the machine??? Mark.. chemfish@utkux.utcc.utk.edu thanx.. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Date: Sat, 15 Feb 1997 22:11:17 -0800 From: Tom Howe To: ceds@teleport.com Subject: The Very Last VideoDisc A manager who was still working at the pressing plant when it closed on June 27, 1986 told me the last title released was "Jewel of the Nile." Several of these were framed for distribution among the management staff with the legend "This Last RCA VideoDisc Produced Is Dedicated To ...... 1986" . This is the only 1986 title I've seen that isn't listed on any of RCA's impending release bulletins, so the decision to press it must have been a last minute thing. It doesn't seem to be an extremely rare title, which is odd, because how did people become aware of its existence to buy it? Perhaps RCA sent out an announcement to their dealer network stating this was the final title available. The ones I've seen also have two labels glued directly over each other on the caddy, so RCA must have been gathering up all their miscellaneous caddies when this was pressed. --Tom Howe
