CED Digest Vol. 2 No. 30 • 7/26/1997 |
From: "Denis C Warburton" To: <ceds@teleport.com> Subject: Re: CED Digest Vol. 2 No. 29 - Black Hole Question Date: Fri, 25 Jul 1997 17:00:39 -0400 To reply to the original poster's question about the version of "The Black Hole" airing on The Disney Channel, the only editing that appears to have been done to the film is the removal of every instance of the words "damn" and "hell." (With absolutely NO regards to CONTEXT! At one point they edited the old quote "Damn the the torpedoes, and full speed ahead" into just "full speed ahead"!!) The scene Daniel claims to have seen does not exist in either the TV edit, the original videotape release, or the Disney Channel version. Perhaps someone who owns the CED can comment if this scene is present (and if they used the same transfer that was used for the original videotape release). Incidentally, I've begun work on writing an FAQ for the Black Hole, so if anyone has any information on this film, I'd appreciate it if you get in contact with me. BTW: If anyone has a CED of this film for sale, or a CED player, please e-mail me. Thanks! This boxed set consists of the RCA releases of Rocky I, II, and III which are identical to the discs RCA sold individually. I already have these three titles, hence my interest in just the box, although I'll buy or trade for the complete set just to get the box (email me for my trade list). The story behind this boxed set is a rather interesting one. RCA pressed vast quantities of monaural Rocky I's for the CED intro in 1981, and also pressed a lot of monaural Rocky II's. CBS came along and released Rocky I and II in stereo, leaving RCA stuck with their now undesirable mono inventory. In a classic example of miscommunication, both RCA and CBS released stereo versions of Rocky III at almost the same time, resulting in another inventory surplus. So the release of this boxed set was a means for RCA to eliminate their excess inventory of these three titles. Rocky IV also exists on CED as a rare 1986 release. Although this is a CBS/Fox title, it was actually pressed by RCA, as the CBS pressing plant had been closed for some time when it was released. --Tom Howe ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Date: Sat, 26 Jul 1997 23:53:06 -0700 From: Tom Howe To: ceds@teleport.com Subject: RCA VideoDisc Classifieds being updated Fellow CED'ers: If you have visted the RCA VideoDisc Classifieds linked at the CED Magic web site in the last couple days, you may have seen some HTML garbage code and no classified ads. The EPage service is revamping their web interface, and the problem appears to be related to the update. They are supposed to have this finished by August 1st, so check the site at that time. --Tom Howe
