Knowing this my husband purchased me a selectavision that he found at a pawnshop with about 100 movies. My husband is very thoughtful, but his intentions leave me in a pile of junk wondering where all of his paychecks went. He was the manager of 3 radio shacks and so I guess his love for gadgets and the hunt for said gadgets greatly improved. The problem is that I don't want it. He paid $150. for the machine and the movies. Fine. Money is just money and he would have blown it on something else. However, it is broken. After a close inspection I noticed that the lever didn't go down to the load/unload part and stay there. So, being an auto mechanic, I took out my trusty flashlight and needle nose pliers and removed a disk and the plastic holder. I don't know who I would trust to fix it, if that is possible. But even if I did fix it...the movies are not my speed. :) If you had the time and inclination to count up all of the electronic gadgets that my husband had purchased, it would blow your mind. It does mine! The same day that he came home with the video disk player he also brought home a mac powerbook...that makes 5 of them!!! and we are a family of 3. Frankly, I waste alot of time trying to fix all of his good intentions and sell or GIVE THEM AWAY!!! The selectavision has been the last toy so far...because I threatened divorce. :) You see, last time we moved...I did ALL OF THE PACKING, UNPACKING, AND ARRANGING Alone.... He was no where to be found. We are planning on moving when the house is finished but...I told him that we will be making trips to the good will if he doesn't do something about it. Thanks for letting me vent. :) If you know someone who would like the movies and player..please pass on my address. I live in Charlestown, WV...outside of Martinsburg. On a lark, I decided to try it with my SJT400! Well, it works! At least partially. Selecting the code for the RCA "Laser disc" (083) allowed me to play, pause, and stop (reject) the disc! I'll experiment further to see what else I can get. Fast search would be great. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Michael Dunn | Surround Sound Decoder & Stereo Enhancer Cantares | Self-Amplified Speakers, Test Equipment 74 George St. | Ambisonic Surround Sound CDs and Recording Waterloo, Ont. | (519) 744-9395 (fax: 744-7129) N2J 1K7 | mdunn@cantares.on.ca Canada | http://www.cantares.on.ca/ ----------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 May 2002 01:09:11 -0400 To: digest@cedmagic.com From: Michael Dunn <mdunn> Subject: Universal remote II The only other function that works is the TV/VCR button. It pauses the disc, presumably connects the RFin to RFout, and displays a blinking A instead of a blinking P. Too bad it doesn't work for searching or audio switching... VCR code 676 (RCA) does it. BTW, although I prefer the Jensen over the RCA universal in some ways, it does not work with EITHER of my VCRs, whereas the RCA mostly does. Haven't yet decided if one or both are going back! p.s., Tom, couldn't you make the digest more frequent. The 1 week delay is really a pain. Thx. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Michael Dunn | Surround Sound Decoder & Stereo Enhancer Cantares | Self-Amplified Speakers, Test Equipment 74 George St. | Ambisonic Surround Sound CDs and Recording Waterloo, Ont. | (519) 744-9395 (fax: 744-7129) N2J 1K7 | mdunn@cantares.on.ca Canada | http://www.cantares.on.ca/ ----------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ From: "Allen wolf" <wolfallen> To: ceds@teleport.com Subject: My Luck with CED's! I recently ordered the replacement parts for the grooved pulley belt replacement. The change over went well. But, when I tried to play a disc to make sure the turntable will spin correctly, the motor would not operate. The control panel lit up, the power light was lit, but nothing happened. After nearly a minute, there was a small wisp of smoke coming from the large white soldered "electronic" part located at the extreme left corner of the control board. This is next to the top left hold-down screw. It was hot to the touch. Anyone know what I have done? Obviously there has been a short-out, but I was hoping some one could identify the large white part, its function, and what might have happened to it. Then, I wish some one could tell me how to fit it. Thanks very much. These cartridges were originally stored in white boxes, and it was determined that ammonia outgassing from the bleach originally used to make the box paper white was over time corroding the beryllium copper flylead on the stylus cartridge. RCA replaced all cartridge boxes still in inventory with inert brown cardboard boxes, which accounts for the relative rarity of 154216 cartridges still in white boxes. The 149000 and 154100 cartridges also come in white boxes, but the foam packaging in these boxes provides some isolation from the white cardboard which apparently lessens the effect of the ammonia. It's unknown how long this outgassing goes on, as new stylus cartridges in these white boxes will be approaching 20 years of being enclosed in that box, but it won't hurt to remove all stylus cartridges from white paper packaging and store them in something relatively inert, like a glass or metal container. It also would be prudent to have a silca gel dessicator in that container to lessen the possibility of humidity damage. --Tom
